Hello, I’m Ellie McShane - a first-year animation student, and a volleyball player.
I’m going to be running for the Sports Officer position in the student union elections. I hope to work with other people at AUB that care about sports and so we can see AUB’s sporting side grow.
At the moment, I’m trying to start a volleyball team at AUB, and I want to help other students to develop more sporting opportunities at the university.
If I’m elected, I aim to introduce a sports day at the end of the academic year. It’ll be an optional event for people that want to have some friendly competition and play some games.
Another thing that I want to improve with your help is the number of sporting teams and opportunities currently on offer. Whether you want to start a new team, or compete individually, there is bound to be someone else at AUB that shares this interest. With this in mind I hope to create a shared platform to help you find others that’ll want to collaborate with you to form a new team or club.
Finally, I want to encourage more collaboration with the sports department at BU. Despite our universities being side by side, there is very little that we share. This is something I want to change. This could be through shared practices, or even just having some annual competitions against them. Something that’ll help us build a bond with other sporting people from our neighbouring university.
