VOTE FOR SAM "I believe that studying at AUB should be enjoyable and inclusive for everyone!"

My personal journey as a disabled student has seen me take a different path to university than most, and I am currently in my first year of BA Creative Writing at 22 years old. In October I was elected as your ‘Students with Disabilities Exec’ and have enjoyed representing you since. During my time as Exec I have formed a Disabilities Committee, worked on projects surrounding Mental Health and Wellbeing, and gained experience of the facilities and support available in a university environment.

I do not have a perfect understanding of everyone’s disability, but I will represent you, be approachable, work with students across AUB, and be your voice!

MY AIMS ARE:

• Ensure all disabled students are represented and given a voice

• Work with students and staff from Foundation, BA and MA to ensure disabled students throughout AUB are supported equally

• Work with organisers of societies, Fresher’s activities, trips, and other events to ensure they are welcoming to all students and help them to make their events accessible.

• Engage with Disability Awareness Month, Women’s History Month and LGBTQ+ Month to make sure disability is represented and celebrated throughout the year.

• Collaborate with other disabled students to create work surrounding our disabilities and ABILITIES

• Increase communication and generate conversation around disability between students, reps, officers and staff

• Be involved in welcoming new students and make them aware of the support and facilities available to them
