KATIE EMERSON

Hi, I'm Katie, a third year Creative Events Management student and your local sassy feminist. I know exactly what it is like to be discriminated against solely based upon gender and that's why I would like to make AUB a safer and more welcoming place for people of all genders and none.

If I am elected as Gender Equality Officer, I intend to fully represent the interests and opinions of all students, as well as address any issues or discrimination they may face during their time at university.

GOALS:

  • Actively campaign to deal with any forms of harassment and gender inequality, both on and off campus.
  • Work closely with the other equalities officers to help achieve real progressive change where necessary
  • Improve the Gender Neutral toilet facilities, to ensure trans and non-binary students feel comfortable using the bathroom
  • Work on abolishing the Pink Tax on items such as tampons for sale in the student shop
  • Tackle the stigma of mental health issues, particularly in men. Suicide is the biggest killer of men between the ages of 20 and 49. Women have been proven more likely to seek help whilst encountering mental health problems, while men are more likely to "bottle things up" as it makes them appear "weak" or "less-masculine." This issue needs more campaigning to stop more preventable deaths from happening.

I am a confident, approachable and kind person, I have a desire to make a real change, and all I need is your vote.
