STELLA KAJOMBO

AUBSU. Important to you, Important to us

Jordan Verdes and Stella Kajombo for Office!

Hi, my name is Stella Kajombo; I’m currently in my third year on Fine Art and I am running to be your Vice President in the upcoming year! Fun fact, I speak two languages and I can talk for days. I believe in the power of speech and our campaign is designed to listen to your voice and be engaging.

For the past two years I’ve been part of the International Society where I help to organise and run events such as Holi and the Chinese New Year celebration. I am also proud to be part of the Feminist and People of Colour societies, where I organise meetings, promote events and engage in conversations about student experiences. As a Student Ambassador, I enjoy meeting new people and shining a light on what the University has to offer. It is through these various interactions that I have learnt what is important to students on campus, which we aim to carry into our campaign. Diversifying and encouraging inclusivity throughout the campus is one of our goals. We aim to do this by continuing platforms such as the Black and Asian Minority Ethnic Focus Group, as well as encouraging various voices to speak out at University.

We students are the University, our voices can shift structures and whatever is important to you and your individual University experience matters to us. As sabbatical officers, we would hope to carry forth your needs and concerns in order to build your ideal experience at AUB.

Our goals!

  1. Greater diversity and inclusivity:

BAME Focus Group, Guest speakers covering a range of subject areas from diverse backgrounds.

Working with students to expand the resources available and accessibility on campus (including, but not limited to more laptops in the library).

  1. Care for Students’ well-being:

Continue to show consideration for students’ well-being through courtyard events, workshops and care package nominations, alongside continued projects such as The                  Small Things Matter.

  1. AUBSU Bus Trips:

Continuing the popular AUBSU BUS Trips to local towns and cities giving students the opportunity to see current shows, influential exhibitions, and inspiring talks happening around the UK.

  1. Refectory Food:

Working with students to improve the food prices and options available in the refectory – healthier options, greater variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free meals.

  1. Environmental Awareness:

Tree planting in local communities, Ecobrick workshop to reduce plastic waste, creating a ‘LimboBox’ to reduce and repurpose course material waste that could be             useful to other students.

  1. BUMF Engagement:

Spread the word about BUMF and its benefits to encourage more students to apply/work with the student-led gallery.
