AUBSU. Important to you, important to us

Stella Kajombo and Jordan Verdes for  Office!

Hello, everyone! My name’s Jordan Verdes and I’m running to be your next SU President (cue confetti cannons). To be super honest, I’m really excited about this position as someone who genuinely cares about the university, but more importantly, how you guys feel at university and what you think it’s giving back to you. Over the last few years studying here, I’ve really got myself stuck in and haven’t been scared to get myself involved. Some of the things I’ve done along the way are:

  • Course Rep. every year since starting
  • Acted as a Course Assistant and Ambassador
  • Worked in the wood and metal workshops as an assistant
  • Coordinate the AUBSU Life Drawing Society
  • Got involved with the BUMF Gallery team

These roles and associated experiences have helped to shape my understanding of how things work around university, but also how to help people in the best way I can. As often as it’s said, I really am approachable and friendly, this I promise! You can come and talk to us about anything – things that are bothering you, things that you love and even the things you would like to see more of. It’s an open door policy and we want everyone to feel welcome and that you can have a chat with us, so your individual voice is heard.

The manifesto Stella and I have put together is designed to support as many of you wonderful people as we can, not just from an academic point, but also your individual experiences while studying and of course, your well-being. Though we believe our points cover some important bases, they form the tip of the iceberg of things we hope to achieve during our year in the office and we hope that you can support us and let us show you how much we care.

Our Goals!

1_Greater diversity and inclusivity:

BAME Focus Group, Guest speakers covering a range of subject areas from diverse backgrounds. Working with students to expand the resources available and accessibility on campus (including, but not limited to more laptops in the library).

2_Care for Students’ well-being:

Continue to show consideration for students’ well-being through courtyard events, workshops and care package nominations, alongside continued projects such as The Small Things Matter.

3_AUBSU Bus Trips:

Continuing the popular AUBSU BUS Trips to local towns and cities giving students the opportunity to see current shows, influential exhibitions, and inspiring talks happening around the UK.

4_Refectory Food:

Working with students to improve the food prices and options available in the refectory – healthier options, greater variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free meals.

5_Environmental Awareness:

Tree planting in local communities, Ecobrick workshop to reduce plastic waste, creating a ‘LimboBox’ to reduce and repurpose course material waste that could be useful to other students.

6_BUMF Engagement:

Spread the word about BUMF and its benefits to encourage more students to apply/work with the student-led gallery.
