AUBSU By-Elections for the 2017-18 Exec Team and Student Trustees.

AUBSU Trustee (3 places)

AUBSU is a registered charity and it is our legal responsibility to be overseen by a Trustee Board. Our board is made up of three Student Trustees, four External Trustees, and two Sabbatical Trustees. Our Trustee Board ensures that we have the necessary financial and structural stability to carry out our aims.

As a registered charity, AUBSU has a board of Trustees who have ultimate responsibility for keeping the organisation running. The Trustees ensure that AUBSU remains within its charitable objectives, is in good financial order, and is working in the best interests of the student body. 

The board is made up of 4 External Trustees, the Sabbatical Officers, and 4 Student Trustees. Meetings occur 5 times per year. 

Student Trustees remain in position for a term of up to two years.

Community Officer

The Community Officer exists to develop and maintain a friendly relationship between community members and students. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

• Promote greater links between AUB students and the local community

• Work to identify areas for green and volunteering opportunities

• Liase with AUB and SUBU Community Wardens and Student Services to identify issues or concerns that might affect student welfare

Events Officer

The Events Officer helps to organise SU events throughout the year, working with the Sabbatical Officers and SU staff to put on amazing events for all students. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

• Work with Sabbatical Officers, SU Staff and other Execs to produce high quality events for students

• Help organise and develop annual events held by AUBSU, such as Freshers and Grad Ball

• Organise brand new events – anything from club nights to hosting pop-up events on campus – that will appeal to students

Halls Officer (2 places)

The AUBSU Halls Officer will work closely with the Sabbatical Officers and other Exec members to ensure halls life is enjoyable, from organising halls events and drop-ins, to forwarding complaints and working with halls management to improve the experience for students living in halls. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

NB: The Halls Officers must be residents of AUB Halls.

  • Liaise with the Students’ Union, Halls management and Student Services to solve issues in halls
  • Put on social events for students in halls
  • Run campaigns relevant to students living in halls

International Students Officer (Equalities)

The International Officer represents and campaigns in the interests of the growing international student community at AUB. To stand for this post you must be an international student. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

The International Officer must be from outside the United Kingdom.

- Represent the concerns and issues of all international members of the
Students’ Union.

- Run campaigns in support of concerns and issues of all international
members of the Students’ Union.

- Provide the most cost-effective, prominent and open sign-posting to
international members of the Students’ Union regarding additional support
and counselling.

- Liaise with the Sabbatical Officers regarding any concerns raised by the
represented cohort.

- May attend AUB International events to liaise with and support
international students.

Minority Ethnic Officer (Equalities)

The Race Equalities Officer deals with the concerns and issues of all students on any race related issues. NB: This officer must self-define as a black or minority ethnic member. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

Creating and Operating AUBSU’s support network for students’ who identify within the Minority Ethnic community.

Ensure Minoritised Ethnicities are represented in all things AUBSU and AUB.

Student representative for the Minority Ethnic community on campus.

Prep HE Officer

The PrepHE Officer represents all students on PrepHE courses. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

NB: This officer must be enrolled on a Prep HE, ED or National Certificate course

  • Represent the concerns and issues of all Foundation students at AUB
  • Liaise with the President and Vice-President on Welfare and Education concerns
  • Put on social events for PrepHE students

Societies Officer

The Societies Officer helps to develop and improve clubs and societies on campus and within the local community. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

Supporting societies to ensure they can fulfil their potential.

Working with the AUBSU team to improve support for societies.

Encourage collaboration and larger club and society events.

Promoting club and society activities alongside the Students’ Unions Give it a Go programme.

Sports Officer (2 places)

The Sports Officer exists to help develop existing sports societies and increase students' participation in sports. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

• Work with Sabbatical Officers, Execs, and the SU’s Sports Assistant to develop new and existing sports clubs

• Work with the getting more AUB sports teams and clubs in BUCS

• Encourage participation and engagement of students in sport

• Encourage cross-collaboration between clubs and help in organising socials and events

Trans & GNC Officer (Equalities)

The Gender Equalities Officer deals with all gender specific issues within AUB and the community at large. This officer can self-define as any gender. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

Represent the concerns and issues of all Trans & GNC students of AUB.

Run campaigns and events for the community.

Assist the AUBSU team in making AUB a place where members of the Trans & GNC community feel safe, represented, and respected.

Volunteering Officer

The Volunteering Officer is responsible for identifying and promoting volunteering opportunities to students, and encouraging students at AUB to get involved in projects in their local community. This is a part-time, voluntary role, undertaken alongside your studies.

- Aid the relevant member of Union staff in the recruitment and support of
student volunteers for Union activities.

- Work with the relevant Union staff member to provide volunteering
activities for the Students’ Union membership.

- Support the volunteering program by assisting the relevant Union staff
member with training and the collection of feedback for the MSL module.

- Assist the relevant Union staff member with the Union Awards at the end of
the year.
